As the 2024 U.S. presidential election begins to settle down and the stresses of "things we shouldn't talk about at thanksgiving" are now over, let's dive in deeper as to why Donald Trump was truly the best option between the two "choices" we as Americans had, if you can even call it that. Ideally, I don't think anyone wanted Harris or Trump in that oval office, but yet again, the U.S. government continues to fail us while also at the same time lying to it's people about "rights," policies, and ultimately what is going to make the lives of everyday American citizens and families better. Nonetheless, here is why Trump was the better choice over Harris any day of the week and twice on Sunday regarding the border crisis and why you should think more in-depth and broadly about the crisis.
Harris had one job, and Failed Miserably
During the Biden-Harris administration, Harris was tasked with a very tall order. She was tasked with the increased border crisis that has been happening for many, many years. I'm not going to sit here and declare that I could do better and that she clearly doesn't know what she's doing, because truthfully, Harris is a highly educated woman who has accomplished much in her career. However, that doesn't mean that her approach to the border crisis was not a disaster, because it most certainly was. Under the Biden-Harris administration, an estimated 8.2 million illegal immigrants have entered this country illegally, with a majority of the issue being at the southwestern border of the United States. To compare numbers, when the Biden-Harris administration officially took office in January of 2021, less than 150,000 immigrants were estimated to have entered this country illegally during the Trump-Pence administration. Clearly, based on those numbers, it can be concluded by any reasonably thinking human being that the negative shift of illegal aliens coming into this country has to do with the change in administration. And the individual who was mainly responsible with tackling this task was Vice President Harris. During her time in attempting to tackle the crisis, she failed miserably. Her approaches were too soft, too open, and allowed for too many holes for illegal immigrants to cross into this country, and allowed for even worse things to happen by doing so. Such as but not limited to: trafficking, smuggling of illegal drugs, smuggling of illegal individuals, illegal weapons, and much much more.
Why the Border Goes Deeper Than Just the American Dream
Many supporters of the Democratic party's policies regarding the border have the general idea that the border should be more relaxed and allow for anyone who wants to come into this country of broader opportunity for a better life to do so. Though this idea is a wonderful one as becoming an American should not be as difficult as it is, one person can ruin the good things for everyone. Unfortunately, the world we live in today does not allow for such a fantasy as horrific crimes such as sex and labor trafficking are occurring at concerningly high rates. As much as I would love to let anyone and everyone into this country that wants to be here, and make a better life for themselves and their family, there must be a process that ensures whoever is not a natural citizen of the U.S. has nothing but pure intentions. This is because we need to be concerned about the fifteen-year-old girl who was told she could come be a model in the U.S. free of cost by a secret sex trafficking recruiter and is instead exploited for sex and traumatized for the rest of her life. We need to be concerned for her, not for the families that are trying to just make a living in the U.S. as a former citizen/resident of another country. Our hearts need to lie with that thought, not the thought of the good ones being turned away, but the bad ones being let in and doing heinous activities.
First and Foremost, we Need to Protect
Too many times, this country has been worried about other countries or events outside this country. Which also plays a role into the many problems we continue to have in this country as our government like to focus on external problems, not internal. In the case of the border, our government is more concerned about the external issues, not the internal, once again. The protection of it's citizens seems to be the last priority on the list, and at the top of the priority list happens to be letting anyone and everyone in because "that's the American way." Yes, once upon a time, our country welcomed all who came to it. Unfortunately, that fairytale way of life simply doesn't exist anymore. Slavery that has been outlawed in our country for over a century is happening under our noses and we don't even realize it, at least us daily citizens don't. Sex and labor trafficking is a serious problem that many choose to ignore because the "nice" thing to do is to let anyone in from other countries seeking a better life.
Think about this for a second: You're a woman in a foreign country that does not give the same rights to you as they do their male counterparts. One day, you are approached by a mysterious man that says "I can get you into America free of charge, and a job" would you take it? I know I might. Our country is known as a land with great opportunity, but so many times criminals will use that idea as a way to get illegal labor through either physical work or sex. When are we as a country going to protect her? Are we fueling this "market" by allowing illegal immigrants in? Or are we inhumane by denying these underprivileged people access to our more privileged country?
Ultimately, many far right individuals will claim that the border crisis is such a problem because "the Mexicans are stealing our jobs" which is in fact not true. Not only is this take incredibly racist and ignorant, but is inconsiderate of what is really happening underneath the surface. Many of the "jobs" that these people are referring to are back-breaking labor for little compensation, or any at all. The issue with illegal immigrants coming into this country isn't the taking of jobs, but instead the exploitation of these workers because being privileged Americans, we won't work for anything less than minimum wage, but an immigrant will. This boarder crisis goes deeper than just jobs, but is a wide umbrella over so many heinous crimes that if we continue to allow such individuals in without a stricter process, will lead many to believe that we as Americans condone this behavior. And I for one, do not condone such crimes. To stop this, we have to get to the root of the problem; the border.
